242 lbs, 53 years old: 'the Orca' attempts world record
5/22/2012His friends call him "the Orca" and while Bruno Dobelmann might not look like an elite athlete, the 242-pound German is reaching for a world swimming record. Dobelmann is attempting to swim across Lake Constance in under 24 hours, wearing nothing but his bathing suit. The 53-year-old dived in on Monday, covered in Vaseline and sporting a hand warmer in his suit to guard against the cold waters of the 39 mile-long German lake. Dobelmann already has one long distance swim record under his belt and for his second attempt at the lake record, he swapped his usual pre-swim kebab for a "sugary gel."
