3-on-3 wants to get in synch with other Olympic niche sports

The Olympic program is getting more micro, more populist or maybe just more contrived all the time. Volleyball begat beach volleyball, cycling begat mountain biking and BMX, and skiing begat the dudes and doobs of snowboarding. Which brings us to 3-on-3 half-court basketball, which the international governing body for hoops wants to see added to the Olympics in time for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro. FIBA leader Patrick Bauman suggests 3-on-3 would allow more countries an Olympic basketball experience. He also noted that "swimming has synchronized swimming." Is that supposed to be an argument for or against? [Source]
