9-year-old fights back against alleged bully, gets suspended
4/20/2012The anti-bullying techniques taught at Colorado's West Elementary School apparently weren't enough to keep one 9-year-old from being tormented regularly. Third-grader Nathan Pemberton fought back and now has been suspended. "One kid kicked me in the back, then punched me in the face. Then I punched him in the face, and then I got in trouble," he said. Nathan claims little action was taken when he told teachers about the bully in the past. The school, which states it has a "no-tolerance" discipline policy, says violence is violence and that Nathan has to pay the price. His parents support Nathan, saying they told him "if there's nobody else around, you do what you have to do."
