Man calls 911 to confess to bank robbery 'mistake'

8/29/2012

Unlike some people who call 911 to request beer, sex or a new mug shot, Kent Anthony Clemens' call was unusual because he was turning himself in. During the call, Clemens, 53, requested police arrest him "for making a mistake." Clemens was calling from his hometown of Topeka, Kan. after returning from Williston, N.D., where he allegedly robbed the Gates City Bank on July 18. The conscience-stricken man was waiting on the front porch of his home when police arrived. Clemens has told authorities he robbed the bank of $800: According to court papers, the robber actually made off with about $700. Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller said, "It is unusual to rob a bank and then call 911 in an attack of conscience." [Source]
