Baby breastfed by wrong mom in hospital nursery mix-up

12/7/2012

Here’s a story that will strike terror into the hearts of parents and anyone who was ever a baby. A newborn was mistakenly placed in another infant's bassinet in a Minneapolis hospital nursery Wednesday, taken to the wrong mother and breastfed. If that's not alarming enough, now the little guy will have to undergo blood tests for HIV and hepatitis for a solid year. Real mom Tammy Van Dyke said the first test was "horrible. Two nurses had to go in through veins in his tiny little arms." On the bright side, an apologetic Abbott Northwestern Hospital has offered to pick up the tab for the tests. Um, thanks? [Source]
