Adorable baby monkey is thriving after mom rejects him

4/20/2012

Who could ever reject a face like this? Loango, a baby mangabey monkey, is getting a new shot at life in Paris' Jardin des Plantes zoo after his mother rejected him a month ago. It's a fortunate turn for Loango and the rest of his monkey species as he's one of only an estimated 1,000 mangabeys left in the world. His birth was part of a European program to increase breeding among endangered species, and, at 7-weeks-old, he's thriving, excelling at all those adorable, baby monkey requisites, like sucking his thumb, chewing on rope and looking at the world with wide, ever-so-curious eyes.
