NFL player just misses setting record, gushes about team win instead

12/31/2012

Adrian Peterson now knows a new meaning for the phrase "the whole 9 yards." The Minnesota Vikings running back came incredibly close to breaking the record for rushing yards in a single season when he helped his team reach the playoffs by defeating the Green Bay Packers Sunday night. Peterson reached 2,097 yards for 2012 after rushing 199 yards against the Packers — just 8 yards behind the 1984 record set by Eric Dickerson. Not that Peterson was overly concerned at failing to create history or even aware how close he came. "We got the W," he said. "That was my main focus coming into the game. I said if it happens, then it happens, but don’t focus on it." [Source]
