Pilot utters an apt 'oh crap' after sonic boom causes $22K in damage

12/21/2012

What do you say when you're a fighter pilot and you realize you just created a window-shattering sonic boom over a populated area? Two words: Oh crap. That's what a pilot in the Air Force's Thunderbirds air demonstration squadron squawked into his headset after he realized he'd broken the sound barrier during a practice run on April 13 for an air show in Tucson, Ariz. The pilot, whose name was redacted from reports, reportedly hit the throttle too hard while trying to get back in formation. The resulting sonic boom shattered windows and caused more than $22,000 in damages. The Air Force reportedly settled around 47 damage claims. [Source]
