Al-Jazeera buys Current TV, will try to make it not suck as much
1/3/2013Having struggled to gain access to American cable viewers, Al-Jazeera remedied the situation by doing the most American thing possible -- it bought a channel. The pan-Arab television channel purchased Current TV, a cable channel founded seven years ago by Al Gore and his business partners that no one watched. Buying the channel, which has been dogged by poor ratings, provides Al-Jazeera with a potentially huge audience -- 60 million of the 100 million American homes with cable or satellite carry Current. The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera will rename the channel Al Jazeera America, and it will be based in New York. [Source]
