Shoeshiner donates $200K in tips over three decades to sick kids

Albert Lexie has spent decades polishing shoes, but his true life's work is bringing shine to the lives of sick kids. Since 1981, the humble shoeshiner, who buffs footwear at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for $5 a pair, has donated all his tips to the hospital's "Free Care" fund, which supports families who can't afford medical costs. To date, Lexie has donated $200,000 — more than a third of his lifetime salary — to the fund. One doctor at the hospital said Lexie did it "because he loves the kids," adding, "He's a philanthropist … He's an entrepreneur."
