'Breaking the seal' doesn't exist, but booze does make you pee
1/19/2013You’re out with friends, the drinks are flowing, when all of sudden you feel that pang. The urge. The need. The ... uh, we’ll be right back. You’ve broken the seal, and thus begins a night of frequent trips to free the pee. Or does it? Scientists took the piss out of yet another urban myth, looking into whether “breaking the seal” is an actual phenomenon. Nope. But, as you might have noticed, alcohol does indeed intensify the need to urinate. Alcohol blocks vasopressin, an anti-diuretic hormone, and decreases ADH, which regulates water in your kidneys, thus causing the dams to burst and the levees to fail. [Source]
