Drunk mice helping to develop 'alcohol antidote' for instant sobriety
2/18/2013One day you might be able to pop a pill to undo the effects of all that booze you accidentally drank. If that ever happens, make sure you thank the pioneering mice who got really drunk so you could enjoy this technological miracle. Researchers have devised a way to rapidly reduce the blood alcohol content of intoxicated mice, by injecting them with nanocapsules containing enzymes that metabolize alcohol. Yunfeng Lu, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at UCLA who lead the research, hopes the findings will someday lead to an "alcohol antidote" that could be taken orally. He said it would be "like having millions of liver cell units inside your stomach or in your intestine, helping you to digest alcohol." [Source]
