Alcoholism vaccine tested that would send drinkers to a hangover, stat

In February, scientists in Santiago, Chile, are slated to begin preclinical trials on the world’s first alcoholism vaccine. The shot would work by speeding up the hangover process to make drinkers feel like crap immediately after taking a swig, quickly experiencing splitting headaches and nausea (immediate non-gratification, people). The thinking behind it? That alcoholics will start to associate drinking — even just one sip — with its miserable after-effects instead of, you know, fun, social lubrication or a coping mechanism. Although the vaccine could be helpful for some, not everyone feels it would address the root of the problem; as one anonymous recovering alcoholic told the Santiago Times, "A person needs to confront themselves."
