QB Alex Smith isn't waiting around to get dumped by 49ers, report says

The worst-kept personnel rumor of the pending NFL offseason was officially confirmed Monday. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, who lost his starting job midseason to wunderkind Colin Kaepernick, will not be returning to the City by the Bay next season. Smith will reportedly seek his release from the team following the Super Bowl instead of allowing the team to trade him, which means walking away from $8.5 million due to him in 2013. Though with several teams in need of a quarterback, Smith could find himself as popular as a pretty lady in an oil boomtown. [Source]
