$9K Goodwill art is probably more valuable than the rest of the store

12/3/2012

Karen Mallet says the $12.34 artwork she recently bought at a Goodwill store in Milwaukee, Wis., is beginning to grow on her. We're going to guess that's because it's turned out to be an Alexander Calder lithograph worth $9,000. Although she barely liked the picture at first — Mallet was far more excited about the knife set she bought that day — she now says she loves the picture. The surprising discovery follows a $21,000 Salvador Dali sketch that turned up at a Goodwill in Tacoma, Wash., and a painting in North Carolina that was bought for $9.99 and sold for $27,000.We really need to stop going to IKEA.
