Surreal diving-seabird photos will take your breath away2/12/2013
Photographer Alexander Safonov says taking pictures of diving cape gannets on South Africa's Wild Coast over the course of several years is one of the "most incredible things" he's ever done. He describes seeing the normally airborne seabirds plunge deep underwater in pursuit of fishy prey as "surreal." "Sun rays, bubble trails, scales, chaotically moving bait fish — all [contribute] to the dramatic spectacle orchestrated and choreographed by nature itself." With their painterly glow, Safonov's images are breathtaking. And the gannets' ability to shoot into the water like a bunch of high-speed missiles is most impressive — though perhaps less so if you happen to be an unlucky fish. [Source]
