Keys' anthem ripped for being too long, too morose
2/4/2013Who didn't like Alicia Keys' performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Super Bowl XLVII? Well, for starters, anyone who bet the "under" on the length of the song going 2 minutes, 10 seconds or less: She blew that by 37 seconds. And then there was just about everyone else, who zinged her for being too non-traditional, too lounge-acty and, yes, for not standing up, even though she was accompanying herself on the piano. Even the tweeps at the Healthcare Channel had a barb: "Why is Alicia Keys in so much anguish all the time? Does she have an alien inside her?" Of course, she got the Ray Lewis seal of approval. He was in tears, as usual.
