6/1/2012FC Cal just gave hope to every hacker who thinks he could out-birdie Tiger Woods and every beer-league softball team with wild dreams of beating the Yankees. Not that the Portland Timbers are Major League Soccer's version of the Yanks, but a fifth-tier amateur team pulling off a 1-0 upset of the pros out-Hoosiered "Hoosiers." Coached by former U.S. team standout Eric Wynalda, FC Cal does have a few ex-pros, but the Timbers put out their best lineup and still couldn't score — $1.2 million import Kris Boyd even air-mailed a penalty kick over the crossbar. The loyal fans of the Timbers Army were especially embarrassed. "Care like we do," they chanted at one point.
