AMC Theatres bans costumes with masks, fake weapons after shooting
7/20/2012If you’re one of those devoted movie fans who like to get dressed up for midnight premieres, you’re going to want to leave your costume at home for the time being. In the wake of the shooting in Colorado, AMC Theatres, which is the second-largest cinema chain in the U.S., has announced a costume ban. As part of stepping up security measures, moviegoers will not be allowed to enter “in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable,” which includes any “face-covering masks or fake weapons.” Given that the suspected shooter at the Aurora screening had dyed his hair red and told authorities he was Batman's nemesis The Joker, this seems to be a logical step toward preventing similar tragedies, but we’ll see if it sticks.
