Amercia.com owner kissing Romney's feet after gaffe

6/1/2012

The Amercian dream is alive and well for a Chinese man thanks to Mitt Romney's app gaffe that misspelled our country's name. Big-time U.S.A. fan John Chen bought the domain Amercia.com in 2009 for $100, fully realizing that there was a typo. "Amercia is so close to America, and it makes us feel so close to the USA," Chen says. Within a day of Romney's gaffe, the Shanghai man was getting emails asking to buy Amercia.com. Domain appraiser EstiBot currently lists its value at $12,000, though it's going for $2,200 at auction. Chen says any money he gets from selling the name will go toward sending his son to college in the U.S.
