'American Idol' accused of adding extra drama through racism

1/26/2013

"American Idol" is dealing with some ugliness, and this time it’s not the Mariah/Minaj feud. Nine former contestants, including Chris Golightly (pictured above), have filed a complaint against "Idol" with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, saying they were cut from the show for racial reasons. It’s not a lawsuit — just a request for the feds to investigate — but it could be the first step toward a courtroom. Lawyers allege the show targeted black contestants with arrest records, to publicly expose them and boost ratings with the drama. Complainant Corey Clark, for example, was booted off the show in 2003 after producers discovered his arrest for allegedly assaulting his sister. [Source]
