'American Pie' actor credits his dog for his sobriety
4/6/2012For years, the friends and family of Chris Klein attempted to get the actor to acknowledge his alcoholism, but his dog made the difference. Along with his loved ones, Klein especially credits his German shepherd, Chief, for making him face up to his problem. Klein told People magazine that Chief "would get agitated that the alcohol was coming out, and I will be forever grateful to him for that." He said Chief would recognize Klein's changes in behavior when he drank and recalled that "the disappointment that I saw in his eyes [was] insurmountable." Klein, who has been sober for 19 months, said he sought treatment in 2010 after being busted for his second DUI, with Chief riding in the car.
