NY Times runs obit revealing man's hatred for NY Times
2/27/2013Oh, the irony. A recent paid obituary for Amos Shuchman, a New York City stockbroker born in Israel, revealed his love for "his family, his birth and adopted countries, finance, skiing, opera, ballet and biking in Central Park" and "everything about NYC, except The New York Times." Naturally, the obit ran in — you guessed it — the very paper Shuchman loathed. His son, Daniel, said that, while his dad (who disliked the Times' Israel coverage) probably wouldn't have liked the idea of his obit generating revenue for the paper, he would have appreciated the irony and posthumous attention. A Times spokeswoman says she found the notice "sort of amusing." [Source]
