Russian ship holding 700 tons of gold ore goes missing in rough seas
10/30/2012A Russian tanker carrying 700 tons of gold ore has gone missing in stormy waters off the Pacific coast. The Amurskaya was headed to the Shantar Islands in the Sea of Okhotsk when authorities lost track of its crew, believed to number between eight and 11 members. An aerial search covering nearly 1,400 square miles failed to find the ship or any sign of those onboard. The ore being shipped from the port of Kiran has been estimated to be worth between $200,000 and $800,000. If the ship has sunk, it's expected crew members won't have long before they succumb to the sea's extremely cold winter waters. [Source]
