Amusingly complex machine pops a balloon in 300 steps

4/9/2012

The engineering whizzes at the Purdue Society of Professional Engineers have set a world record for the largest Rube Goldberg machine with their 300-step device designed to blow up and pop a balloon in the most amusingly complicated way possible. The Purdue society had previously held the record for a 232-step machine that outlined the history of the world. The new record-setting device features an ingenious use of rotating panels that allow multiple steps to be played out in a compact space, but really, our all-time favorite from the team has to be the 156-step burger preparer from 2008. It might not be as complicated, but at least it produced a tasty end product.
