Norwegian mass-murderer declared sane and jailed for 21 years

8/24/2012

In a unanimous decision on Friday morning the man responsible for the massacre of 77 people in Norway last summer was declared sane and sentenced to 21 years in prison. Anders Breivik, 33, was convicted of terrorism and premeditated murder for the July 2011 attacks he orchestrated in Oslo and on Utoeya island. He claimed he was seeking to stop the “Islamization” of Norway when he opened fire at a Labor Party youth camp and had stated that he hoped to be declared sane in a bid get to get his political message across. The maximum sentence in Norway is 21 years imprisonment, but Breivik can be incarcerated indefinitely if deemed unsuitable for release.[Source]
