Andi Davis' arms still ache from the ordeal, but it's a good ache. The Phoenix mom was hiking an abandoned mountain trail when she found a young pit bull that had been shot, collapsed in agony and left to die. After cautiously making friends and giving him water, Davis hoisted the 47-pound animal in her arms and carried it downhill for an hour so he could be rushed to the Arizona Humane Society. Vets there decided not to remove the bullet for fear that more damage might be done, but now the dog has a name, Elijah, and a new family in the Davises, who decided the rescue was had been fated even though they already have three dogs. "Mom has a dog, dad has a dog, I have a dog,” said 10-year-old Jessi. “Elijah is the family dog. Because he’s special.” [Source]
