Watch your computers: Anonymous has launched its Nov. 5 hacking spree

11/6/2012

Today is Guy Fawkes Day (an annual U.K. shoutout to the 16th-century rebel), and, as promised, the online hacktivist group Anonymous is doing its best to eff up the Internet in celebration. Rumors have been swirling about the group’s involvement with a Symantec breach, though affiliated Twitter users are disputing this (and a previous rumor that it hacked 28,000 PayPal passwords is apparently false). The group claims it isn’t behind yesterday's attacks on NBC. Tweets from the cybercollective have been threatening for weeks to also shut down Facebook today. So far, the famous blue bar seems to be popping up fine, but if you have any last-minute election updates, you may want to make them now. [Source]
