Man facing five years in jail over heart-shaped romantic gesture
2/25/2013It sounds like a MasterCard commercial gone wrong. A dozen heart-shaped balloons? $19.99. A night at the Motel 6? $79.99. Sitting with your girlfriend as you release those balloons into the sky? Priceless. And a felony arrest and maybe five years in prison. When Anthony Brasfield set those shiny balloons free as a romantic gesture for his lady, a Florida Highway Patrol officer skipped past the sentiment and saw only illegal pollution. He arrested Brasfield on charges of an environmental crime: "polluting to harm humans, animals [and] plants under the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Act." Guess Brasfield will say it with flowers next time. [Source]
