Anti-Spirit cause lifts off after airline denies dying vet refund
5/3/2012A growing social media campaign is ratcheting up pressure on Spirit Airlines to return a $197 refund to a dying Vietnam veteran. A "Boycott Spirit Airlines" Facebook page is at 28,000 "Likes" and counting, with many of the fans being enraged fellow vets, as the low-cost Florida-based carrier continues to be crucified for refusing 76-year-old Jerry Meekin's refund request. Two weeks after buying a ticket to visit his daughter in New Jersey, Meekins learned that his esophageal cancer was terminal, and his doctor told him he was too ill to fly. "This is a despicable act on their part," one Facebook post read. "They should have quietly returned the airfare and they could have avoided this. I will never fly this airline."
