Goalie suffers cornea burns when soccer fans toss firecrackers
11/19/2012The times when goonish soccer fans simply rumbled in the streets outside the stadium are beginning to look like the good old days. The new trend of hooligans hurling explosives onto the pitch is picking up steam, and now it's picked up a victim: goalkeeper Anton Shunin of Moscow Dynamo, who suffered burns to his cornea and has impaired vision from a firecracker that was thrown at his feet during a Russian match with Zenit of St. Petersburg. The game was abandoned immediately and the outcome will be determined by the country's ruling body, whose executive director, Sergei Cheban, grumbled, "A football pitch isn't a war zone." Sadly, the smoke tells another story. [Source]
