AP changes course, won't un-marry gay and lesbian couples

2/22/2013

The Associated Press usually covers the news, rather than makes it. That wasn't the case earlier this month, when the organization circulated an internal memo advising staff to describe those in same-sex relationships as "partners" or "couples"even if they were legally married. Today, the AP announced that it wasn't in a position to put asunder what God (or anyone else legally permitted to do so) has joined together. It stated that its Stylebook will newly apply the terms "husband" and "wife" "regardless of sexual orientation ... to individuals in any legally recognized marriage." [Source]
