Apple pays Swiss rail service cuckoo price for clock design
11/12/2012Ever since late September, it’s been the talk of railroad nerdom that Apple stole the very licensed and iconic design of the Swiss National Rail service for its iOS6 clocks. Now Apple has had to pony up $21 million to make things right with the Swiss (who we hear are pretty good at accounting). The streamlined design has been ticking away on over 210 million devices, some of which Apple had to have known would head to Switzerland eventually, so ultimately the design's cost clocks in at ten cents a copy. Which is way, way more than it would cost to ask some little design studio to come up with a fresh take on a round face, twelve hour markers and a couple hands. [Source]
