Clearly very expensive 'flawless' diamond sells for $21M
11/14/2012If you hope to one day own the Archduke Joseph diamond, start hoarding pennies. The 76-carat, "internally flawless" diamond was snapped up by an anonymous bidder for an incredible $21 million — $6 million more than it was expected to sell for. "It is a world record for [a diamond from the renowned Indian Golconda mines] and a world record price per carat for a colorless diamond," said Francois Curiel, a director from auction house Christie's. The Archduke Joseph, named after a Hapsburg prince who once owned it, was last sold in 1993 for a comparatively cheap $6.5 million. [Source]
