Arizona is having some difficulty counting all its ballots

11/13/2012

Nearly a week after Election Day, one state remains far from completing its ballot count. As of Monday afternoon, Arizona had 486,405 ballots out of 1.8 million cast left to count. The majority of those ballots -- some 322,000 -- are from Maricopa County, which includes the Phoenix metro area. Several close races, including a U.S. Senate race, could still be impacted by the final tally. Adding to the outcry over the slow count is the high number of provisional ballots cast by first-time minority voters, as well as the assertion from some groups that the state’s voter ID law disproportionately impacted minority voters.
