Army celebrates birthday with a tank made out of cupcakes

6/25/2012

The US Army turned 237 years old June 14 and marked the anniversary with a week of celebrations. You can't have just any birthday cake for more than two centuries of service, but a 2,500-pound tower of cupcakes in the shape of a tank, complete with a working gun that uses an air cannon so it can actually fire a cupcake? That will do nicely. Usually we think of cupcakes as the territory of enthusiastic lady bloggers and kids' parties, but these 5,000 mocha fondant and buttercream cupcakes look very military in their formation. The tank was created by Georgetown Cupcakes, a bakery that bakes and ships 10,000 cupcakes to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq every year.
