Army vet says Old Navy kicked him out for enforcing the law

6/22/2012

An Army veteran says he was kicked out of an Old Navy store in Jacksonville, Fla., after he pointed out an employee wearing a Marine Corps jacket. Aaron Bennett said he complained because the jacket had rank as well as a "couple rows [of] ribbons and a weapons badge." Under the Stolen Valor Act, it's illegal to falsely present yourself as having earned military honors, which can include wearing a jacket you bought at a military surplus store. Bennett says after reporting this to a manager, mall security removed him. His story quickly gained momentum on the Stolen Valor Facebook page, with many commenters vowing to shun the store in an act of solidarity. Old Navy has called the incident a misunderstanding and said Bennett was never banned.
