Controversial NFL owner Art Modell dies at age 879/6/2012
Art Modell, one of the NFL's most innovative and controversial team owners, died Thursday morning at age 87. Modell spent four decades watching the field from the owners' box, first with the Cleveland Browns, then, after moving the beloved franchise to Baltimore, with the renamed Ravens. "I think that part of my legacy is I left the colors, the name and the records in Cleveland," Modell once said. Unfortunately, that move (and the lingering bitterness emanating from the top half of Ohio) overshadowed some of Modell's contributions to the game, such as negotiating the league's television contracts and proposing a weekly Monday night game.
