ASPCA will pay Ringling Bros. $9.3M after elephant mistreatment claims
12/30/2012The Greatest Lawsuit on Earth may be unraveling. Court battles between the company which operates Ringling Bros.and Barnum & Bailey Circus and a phalanx of animal rights groups have dragged on for more than a decade. But now the ASPCA has agreed to pay Feld Entertainment $9.3 million to settle its part of a racketeering lawsuit stemming from what was ruled to be untruthful testimony by former circus employee Tom Rider about the mistreatment of elephants. That may prompt the other groups, which together paid Rider nearly $200,000, to wave the white flag as well. It's too bad we couldn't have heard testimony from the elephants themselves about their care. [Source]
