Atheist group wants cross removed from war memorial
4/25/2012An atheist group in Rhode Island is demanding that the city of Woonsocket remove the cross off the top of a 91-year-old monument, which honors slain hometown soldiers. The Freedom From Religion Foundation claims the tribute, which is in the parking lot of the city's fire station, violates the First Amendment's freedom of religion clause. The town's mayor has so far refused, calling the atheists a group of "knuckleheads" and saying he hopes to display the monument even more prominently.
Do you think the cross should be removed?
