Best customer service ever saves elderly woman from getting scammed
11/17/2012A case of deja vu helped one elderly woman avoid falling victim to a scam. Austin Ramirez was working the customer service desk at a Hy-Vee store in Overland Park, Kan., when an 88-year-old woman told Ramirez she needed to transfer $1,900 to the Philippines because of a call she received telling her a grandson had been in an accident. Ramirez recalled an incident a month before when an elderly man made a similar request. Ramirez kept pressing the woman about the caller, and when it became increasingly clear it was a ruse, Ramirez refused to let her send the money, convincing the thankful woman that it was a con.
