Austria and Slovenia feud over the provenance of a sausage
4/15/2012Some countries fight about diplomacy or foreign trade, but others have more pressing items on their agenda. In the case of Austria and Slovenia, it is the Krainer Sausage, a long-cherished minced pork treat, that has given their feathers a particular ruffling. Slovenia claims its people invented the delicacy in the 19th century and has applied for European Commission for Protected Geographical Indication status. The move has so enraged Austria, which believes it came up with the tasty pork delicacy, that it is formally challenging the bid.
