Author says Mitt Romney needs to pay his great grandfather's debt
8/28/2012"Mitt Romney owes me money." That's the claim from author Judith Freeman, who says Romney needs to pay a 130-year-old debt that his great-grandfather Miles owed her great-granddad, William Flake. The two Mormon men were arrested for polygamy in Arizona and Flake paid $1,000 to bail Romney out of jail; Romney skipped bail and Flake spent six months in prison for it. "It's never too late to make a situation right, and … I'd like to call upon [Mitt Romney] to do so," Freeman writes. She estimates that her relative's "$1,000 from the 1880s" is worth $25,000 in today's dollars but don't worry Mitt: she's willing to waive the interest. [Source]
UPDATE: This headline was corrected to clarify that it was Mitt Romney's great-grandfather and not Romney himself who acquired the debt.
