Teacher puts disruptive, autistic teen in cardboard 'bad kid fort'
1/9/2013Two parents in Parkersburg, W. Va., say their 15-year-old autistic son's teacher disciplined him for bad behavior by putting a cardboard box around his desk and labeling it "bad kid fort." Beth Dean and Jeff Richards say the teacher's actions "destroyed the years of counseling and encouragement we have provided to make sure he has a good self-image," and insisted that their son's education plan outlines steps to take when his behavior is disruptive. School principal Pam Goots agreed that the box was not good judgment but said she didn't believe the teacher was trying to humiliate the student. [Source]
