Auto industry expected to help the economy for a change

2/20/2012

There's good news ahead for Michigan: The state is likely to see an uptick in its economy, as the nation's automakers are bringing in profits and handing out bonuses to their workers. Data from the Federal Reserve Board shows Michigan is expected to outperform all other states economically in the next six months, and GM, Ford, Chrysler and Boeing have all started handing out bonuses. GM will start giving bonus checks up to $7,000 apiece in March. Ford and Chrysler are doling out $2,450 and $1,500, respectively, on average. The perks aren't limited to Motor City and its environs, however: Boeing workers in Seattle and Charleston saw bonus checks as well, with the Seattle-Tacoma-area workers receiving $3,500 to $4,000 each before Christmas.
