'Dead' baby born on frozen street is revived, thanks to cops
2/21/2013Two very alert cops in Toronto helped bring a newborn baby back from the almost-dead. The officers were watching over what they thought was the corpse of a baby girl whose mother had given birth on a sidewalk in frigid temperatures (6.8 degrees), waiting for the coroner to arrive. Nearly two hours into their wait, they noticed a slight movement under the sheet. Detecting a pulse, they alerted medical personnel, and the baby was eventually revived. The girl, now hospitalized in fair condition, likely suffered from hypothermia, which “can mimic death” by slowing down brain activity and metabolism to a point where a pulse can be undetectable.
