Baby giant panda sadly dies after inhaling breast milk
7/11/2012Some heartbreaking news: A baby giant panda, born last week at a Tokyo zoo only days after zookeepers discovered its mother was pregnant, has died. The 6-day-old, yet-to-be-named male cub was found lying on its back on its mother's chest, not breathing. An autopsy revealed the panda had likely inhaled some of his mother's breast milk while nursing, the zoo's teary director explained at an emotional press conference. Efforts to resuscitate the wee panda, who had spent a peaceful interlude with his mother before his sudden demise, proved fruitless. "It happened so suddenly," the zoo's chief panda keeper told the BBC, "and it's such a pity." A pity indeed.
