Soldiers think they found explosive device, but it's really a baby

9/24/2012

This baby is damn lucky to be alive. Polish soldiers discovered her wrapped up in a towel by the side of a road in Afghanistan and first mistook her for an improvised explosive device, or IED, but then made the bombshell discovery that it was really a two-day-old infant girl. No one was found within a one-mile radius of the drop-off location, leaving no clues as to who deposited the baby and what circumstances led to her abandonment. Doctors at the Waghez military base examined her, and Polish soldiers who are more accustomed to going on bullet-and-grenade runs were dispatched to purchase baby formula, a bottle and a bib. The babe has been named Pola (short for "Poland") and will be handed over to Afghan authorities ASAP. [Source]
