Pet owners worry after another dog dies of heatstroke on United flight

10/1/2012

Supermodel Maggie Rizer’s 2-year-old golden retriever Beatrice died from heatstroke after getting checked into the pet hold of a United Airlines flight earlier this summer, and a new report is surfacing that another dog died aboard a United flight in August, a 2-year-old Neopolitan Mastiff named Barn Barn — also from heatstroke. Passengers and pet advocates say two such deaths so close together are red flags of serious negligence from an airline that promises pressurized, climate-controlled cabins for pets, and charges dearly for them. “It never occurred to me that when he was down in the hold he was dying,” said Bam Bam's stricken owner Michael Jarboe. United has refunded Jarboe the dog’s fare, which we doubt is any comfort for losing man’s best friend. [Source]
