Base jumper survives 400-foot parachute fail

7/7/2012

Verily, base jumping invites catastrophe. Behold our subject, who has marched out into the frozen wilds of Konakova, Russia; who has risked trespassing; who has avoided being roasted by an electricity pylon; who has suppressed a heart attack while standing shakily at the edge; and then, after so many small victories, who has leaped -- only to have his parachute fail. Fortunately, Buddha protects fools, drunks, babies and people in snowy climates. The snow cushion allows this guy to survive his nearly 400-foot fall with only two broken legs, fractured vertebrae and a busted pelvis. He was walking in three months. When he'll be climbing pylons again is unknown.
